Scope and Contents
Materials include 13 audiocassettes containing sound recordings of the South Carolina Voices of the Civil Rights Movement conference, corresponding transcripts, an index of the transcripts, and photocopies of the original housings of audiocassettes, which needed to be replaced while being reformatted.

Access Restrictions
The collection is open for research. A cassette player is required to listen to the audiocassette tapes. A cassette player will be made available to researchers in our reading room. The Avery Research Center does not currently have the technology to play the UCA60 videocassettes.

Abstract
Recording includes the conclusion of the Civic and Political Action panel moderated by Septima Clark (Citizenship Education Project) with Thomas L. Johnson ("James McBride Dabbs: A South Carolinian Speaks"), Modjeska Simpkins (Civic Activist, Columbia, S.C., former member of S.C. Human Relations Council), and Margaretta Childs (former member of S.C. Human Relations Council) participating and the beginning of the Redress and Protest panel moderated by Bobby Doctor (U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and former participant in the S.C. State College student movement) with Joe Brown, James Sulton (Orangeburg Bowling Alley, Dorothy Ann Richards (Charleston Incident "We'll Never Turn Back" exhibit), and Armand Derfner (Civil Rights Attorney).
